'Youngest Candidate' has inspiring soundtrack

Jason Pollock showed his documentary “The Youngest Candidate” at Wonders Hall Kiva on Sunday. What stood out to me was the great music that went along with the film.

Eight independent rock bands, including The Loom and Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, are featured throughout the film. I attribute much of the emotion of the film to the great music.

These folksy, indie-rock artists add excitement and somberness to pivotal moments in the film.

All of the bands decided to give each of their songs to the film for a $1 each, Pollock said. They provided their music because they liked the concept of getting young people out to vote.

Pollock is working on making a soundtrack for the film.

“I was able to get the manager of Green Day to listen to my soundtrack and he’s going to put the soundtrack out on his record label, Adeline Records,” he said. “I’m planning a big nationwide tour with him and the bands for the spring of ’09 to really get this message out there that teens can run for office. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, you should just try to do it.”

The only problem is working on a limited budget. Pollock is looking for help to make “The Youngest Candidate” a movement. He especially needs help from college students to get this tour underway, so if you’re interested in helping this great film and these great artists, check out Pollock’s Web site, TheYoungestCandidate.com, in addition to his Facebook.com group and his MySpace.com page.
